Have you heard the story of Noelle Pikus-Pace? She competed as an athlete in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
Her event is the skeleton, where athletes zoom down head first an icy track on a small sled, sometimes reaching speeds of 90 mph. (No thanks, I’m good.)
Noelle first competed in the 2006 Olympic games, but suffered a terrible accident that left her with a broken leg. She recovered and competed in the 2010 Olympics, only to fall short of reaching the podium by just over one-tenth of a second.
After years of preparation and years of training, she finally had her year in 2014. She threw down 4 amazing runs, which awarded her the silver medal. Although she didn’t win gold, she was still seen jumping into the stands and embracing her family yelling “We did it!”, ecstatic for having accomplished such a feat.
Noelle had to wait 8 years for her dream to come true. Others have undoubtedly waited longer.
But time is going to pass no matter what. You might as well spend that time chasing your dream.IMAGE: AP PHOTO/MICHAEL SOHN/ASSOCIATED PRESS
